Hi, I’m Kelly.
I live near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with my husband, two sons, and our dog, Chewy.
I love walking outside, bonfires, chocolate chip cookies, and writing stories and poems for kids of all ages!
Now’s the part where I tell you how much I’ve always loved books and reading, right!? Not so fast.
Guess what my favorite subject was in school… Math!
Guess what my major was in college… Math!
Guess what I did for a living after college… I was an actuary (A.S.A., E.A.) — which means I did lots and lots of Math and took lots and lots of Math exams.
Yep, that’s right. I LOVE math. I love puzzles and problems and games.
But guess what? I also love stories, and imagination, and wishes, and dreams. But for some reason I read r e a l l y s l o w l y. So, I shied away from books.
But then something weird happened. I decided to write. And the more I wrote, the more I wanted to write in rhyme. And the more I wrote in rhyme, the more I loved to write. But wait, what’s going on? What’s a math person like me doing writing poems?
And then it hit me. Writing poems IS Math! It’s puzzles and problems and games with words instead of numbers!
Then, something exciting happened. I learned about Libby, a free app that lets you stream audiobooks from your library. And guess what, I LOVE BOOKS! Now, I read a couple novels a week. (But I still prefer reading physical picture books. I mean, illustrations. Am I right?)
Then, an amazing thing happened. I sold a poem.
Then, another amazing thing happened. I got an agent.
And then THE MOST amazing thing EVER happened. I SOLD A BOOK!!!!!
So, I encourage all of you to read and write whatever you can, however you can. It’s too much fun to miss, and if I can do it, so can you!!!
❤️
Kelly
I am represented by Sarah Stephens at Red Fox Literary.
My books are short, but the journey was long. I’m grateful for the fantastic friends I met along the way.
First and foremost, my friend, mentor, and cheerleader turned guardian angel, Katie Dopirak.
And to all the wonderful women that I have leaned on and learned from (in alphabetical order):
And finally, I am thankful for my family.
