I found out about a writing contest that is already underway! The challenge is to write a complete story – beginning, middle, and end – in 50 words or less.
This contest is brought to you by Vivian Kirkfield. Her first picture books are coming out this year, and she is already a legend among her peers. She is everything you’d think a picture book writer should be. Vivian says we should enter contests, so I’m going to listen.
For more information on the contest, click here. Or hop on over to read lots of fun new stories. Again, they must be 50 words or less, so you can quickly read a bunch. And while you’re there, feel free to leave encouraging comments to the writers!
Here’s my entry:
THE TRIP
(47 words)
I see
my friends.
I prance.
I skip.
The tree
roots rise.
Toe hits.
I trip.
I jump
back up.
I look
around.
Did they
see me
fall to
the ground?
They point
and laugh,
but I’m
okay.
So I
laugh too
and then –
we play.
Very nice! Good luck!
Thanks, Carole!
I like it, good luck!
Thanks!
Fun story! I’m pretty sure a similar type of contest is how one of Dr. Suess’s books came to be. Maybe green eggs and ham?
Yep! That’s what it’s based on and why it starts on his birthday. Go, Jill!
